ASSAM RIFLES WIVES WELFARE ASSOCIATION (ARWWA)

General

Assam Rifles Wives Welfare Association, Shillong is the invisible hand that nurtures the Assam Rifles and is a formal body registered with the Registrar of Societies, Meghalaya, Shillong vide Registration No  E.16 (Rs)8/2005/122 dt 25 May 2005.

Welfare of troops is of paramount importance in Assam Rifles. The aim of ARWWA is to support and augment the welfare measures, primarily that of families, children and widows of all ranks, veer naris and families of retired personnel.

The focus is also on enhancing outreach towards women staying and working in far and remote locations of our nation. Innumerous projects are undertaken towards skill and vocational development, empowerment and education of women and children of Assam Rifles.

Organization

ARWWA Managing Committee.
For achieving the aims and objectives of the society, there shall be a board of association composed as under :

Central ARWWA Executive Committee. The day to day affairs and routine matters will be managed by the executive committee composed of the following office bearers :-

(a)       President.
(b)       Vice President.
(c)        Secretary.
(d)       Jt Secretary ARWWA.
(e)      Treasurer.

Tenure of Committee Members.

  • A member shall automatically cease to be as such in the following circumstances:-
     (i)         On acceptance of her resignation by the Managing Committee.
     (ii)        On transfer of spouse.
  • The committee may remove a member who has failed to attend three consecutive meetings chaired by the President without acceptable justification.
  • As decided by President.

ARWWA Conference

An ARWWA Conference will be held twice in a year along with AR Commander’s Conference at HQ DGAR, Shillong. The managing committee will review the activities carried out and also decide on the broad guidelines for future progress of ARWWA activities in the following year.

Financial Assistance and ARWWA Projects

     Assam Rifles  Wives Welfare  Association  will  provide financial assistance to needy widows of AR personnel loosing life in operations, ex-Assam Rifles personnel / service personnel and their dependents. The details are given in succeeding paragraphs:-

All cases for assistance by the ARWWA will be vetted from unit level upwards. These shall be processed through the Sector Headquarters and IG Headquarters. The President, Treasurer and Secretary at all levels will screen these requests to  ensure that they are worthwhile projects and genuine cases. Whenever the ARWWA at the lower formation level are able to deal with such cases of financial assistance they will do so without any reference to ARWWA President/ Executive Committee.

Deserving children may be given scholarship @ Rs. 500/ per month at the direction of the managing committee.

Depending upon the financial position of ARWWA, it is proposed to provide financial help to hospitals for the welfare of patients. This may be decided by the Executive Committee. Suitable gifts may also be presented to seriously ill patients, who are generally hospitalized for longer duration for treatment.

Literacy Schemes will be implemented through Family Welfare Centre’s of respective units. Regular classes will be conducted by selected wives of Officers/JCOs/OR. Desirous ladies should attend the classes for an approximate duration of 6 months at the end of which they should be capable of writing   letters  to  their  husbands/ homes and maintain simple home accounts. Programme to promote education of children by  awarding of scholarship. IGNOU courses will be promoted/encouraged.

All Fmn will conduct awareness lectures for empowerment of women, housekeeping, sanitation, banking, service conditions of AR personnel including pay and allowances, pension post retirement benefits etc.
